Sophia Kayafas is a painter and musician who lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. In her forth coming album “Let’s Go Swimming,” she explores the nuances of folk rhythm and melody and its ties to blues and pop music. Addictively percussive loop tracks and harmonically rich vocals come together for a fresh, homemade sound. Eight years in the making, and finally recorded and produced in her apartment during the quarantine, this collection of radically honest and heartfelt songs have culminated into this deeply intimate album chronicling her spiritual path.
Featured on this album is Sophia’s talented brother, best friend, collaborator, drummer, and percussionist, Tino Kayafas, whose unique rhythmic punctuations fully complete songs such as Black Dog, and I Got Time (co-produced), as well as jamming royally to Let’s go Swimming, My Heart, and I’m Ready. As well as both creative friends, guitarists, and talented visual artists; Angela Grahm (painter) whose sexy guitar solo in Let’s Go Swimming is soulful and unexpected, and the indie punk genius Evan Swamy whose bluesy/alternative guitar licks give buoyancy to Look Away and Lady Lady. Michael Castellucci plays his trumpet on Womp Womp Womp.
