A pivotal moment arrived at the age of 13 when he partnered with his best friend, Robert Combs, to form their first band in the sun-soaked deserts of Arizona. This endeavor laid the foundation for his future artistic endeavors and nurtured the seeds of creativity that would flourish in the years to come.
A significant chapter of SDY’s journey unfolded as he assumed the role of drummer in the alternative rock ensemble, Yesterdays Promise. The band’s sonic tapestry, woven from alternative influences, resonated deeply with audiences, leading to a devoted fanbase that steadily expanded. By the time SDY reached 17, Yesterdays Promise had captured the attention of music industry veterans, resulting in the recording of their inaugural full-length album. This landmark achievement was made possible through collaborations with esteemed producers, the Robb Brothers (The Lemonheads) and Toby Wright (Alice In Chains, 3EB & Korn). The band’s momentum surged further, culminating in a record deal when SDY was merely 18. However, fate dealt a tragic blow with the untimely passing of Robert, prompting SDY to reevaluate his artistic path.
Unwavering in the face of adversity, SDY embarked on a journey of artistic reinvention. He pivoted from drumming to exploring his vocal prowess while honing his guitar skills. This transformational period gave birth to the release of an EP for Yesterdays Promise, serving as a tribute to their shared journey. Simultaneously, SDY ventured into an experimental rock project called IRIDESCENT, showcasing his multifaceted approach to composition and arrangement.
Most recently inspired by the autobiography of Dave Grohl, “The Storyteller,” SDY underwent a paradigm shift that propelled his artistry in a new direction. Drawing from his own experience of loss in the musical realm. This marked the genesis of a deeply personal and introspective chapter in his musical narrative. SDY embarked on a mission to craft songs that were not only melodically enchanting but also narratives of his own life. Each composition became a chapter, and SDY took on the roles of both writer and performer.
The studio emerged as the canvas for SDY’s creative expression collaborating with legendary Portland producer Kris Crummett (DGD, Sleeping with Sirens, The Story so far). The songs were meticulously recorded, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Kris.
