Recorded and produced in the exact same studio as the 1977 original, Ananta & Zephan have recast the classic track in the eurythmic mold of the modern age, translating the laid-back original into a trancelike journey through the esoteric realms of dance. Texturing the lush, mellow tones which crowned Mac’s original song over an intoxicating beat, Govinda’s eclectic creation glistens with hypnotic, transient EDM elements interwoven with warm R&B-styled undertones, whilst electrifying his creation with an elite club ambience. Zephan’s revitalisation of Dreams’ eternalised melody ties a seamless, stunning link between the past and present of pop.
Keen to preserve the legends of music history, Ananta is devoted to the restoration of San Francisco’s celebrated Record Plant Studios in Sausalito, due to reopen in 2023. This iconic studio was the birthplace of Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors & Tusk albums, Stevie Wonder’s Songs In The Key Of Life and Prince’s debut album, For You, to name but a few. The conservation of Record Plant’s haven of musical legacy beams its liquid inspiration upon every magnetic pulse of Ananta & Zephan’s captivating cover of Dreams.
Whilst redesigning and overseeing the digital transformation of the 70s studio, Ananta crossed paths with Grammy Award winner, Ken Caillat; the original producer and recording engineer for Fleetwood Mac during their 1976 recording at Record Plant. His narratives of the studio’s golden age opened portals into the historic legacy of the studio, becoming a metaphysical catalyst for this new iteration of the Mac classic to surface within the music domain. Ananta notes the wave of revelation which influenced the spellbinding cover; inspiration ignited after hearing the inside story of Stevie Nicks’ ineffable creation of Dreams as a newcomer to the band; “I felt like the legendary music was imprinted into the walls of the studio. I was looking at the scratched wooden floors and thinking how those dents were made by the wheels of speakers of legends such as Fleetwood Mac.”
Ananta & Zephan’s Dreams is a visionary cover, released to commemorate the opening of the original Sausalito Record Plant studio in 1972. This track is centered upon the concept of connecting the legendary past of the studio with the compelling potential bestowed by its renovation into the modern age of sound.
